The Ghana Story

Peace & Blessings, Readers:

My name is Nana Zakia,CEO of Proverbs 8 Empowerment International, LBG.  We Are A Registered NGO And Non-Profit Organization On Both Continents Of: Africa And America.  From 1995 – 2006, for many years, I traveled back and forth to Ghana taking your donations of school supplies, clothes, medical/arts & crafts supplies, toys, etc. to the village of Assin Kruwa.  I left America in December 2001 and I re-located to Ghana to fulfill my duties as an Ankobiahene Chief, the first African-American woman in Ghana’s history to be ‘Enstooled’ with this honor in January 1995.  I remained in Ghana from December 2001 – December 2006, implementing programs/projects for my village and global community in general.  Assin Kruwa is a remote village located in Kakum National Park rainforest. The people of Assin Kruwa are subsistence farmers of cocoa, oranges, palm, coconuts, cassava, plantains, bananas, tomatoes, etc.  Many of the adults have only an 8th grade or high school education and are poor, under/un-employed.   Assin Kruwa residents are overwhelmed with the caring of their farms and most don’t/can’t participate in political process of civil responsibility other than vote for their party. Therefore, it was my mission as Nana Ankobiahene and President of The Women of Proverbs 8 to advocate on behalf of the village to ascertain governmental appropriations for ‘Rural Development’ needs/project/programs.  I often spoke at public assembly meetings on record and met with many members of the local Assin North/South members and Ministers of Parliament to inform them of our town’s needs.  See Our Listed Accomplishments Attached.

For 17 years, (from 2007- 2024) I was unable to return for personal/family/financial reasons, but, I remained in touch with my village, extended family members & Board Members.  When I returned to America in December 2006, I continued our projects and fund-raising efforts in The USA, producing Cultural Shows, Women’s Spiritual Healing Circles, Conducted  Business Workshops and Networked with other Women’s  & Other Community Organizations, including participating in many of The United Nations Conference of The Status of Women. We coordinated many events, and I financially supported our village improvement projects, sponsored education for many youth and sent money raised for various programs/projects/causes to Ghana.  Our NGO was formerly named Women of Proverbs 8 Council, Inc. from 1997-2023.  In 2024, we had To Re-Structure and Re-Name our organization, as many of our Women of Proverbs 8 Council, Inc., were elders council members & died and therefore, we needed to Re-Structure & Re-Register under a New Title, yet, we kept our same projects/goals. We formed new By-Laws, Constitutions and Recruited New Board Members.  We’re legally registered in America and Ghana since June 2024 – Present- (November 2025.)
